KIDS   CARE  Akaki  Kality day  CARE

• A base line  social survey  study  regarding the  availability  of basic  services in  Salo  Giorigis  community  of A kaki/kaality  sub- city  of A ddis A baba  city Administration was carried out in   December 2003.The survey findings  indicated that the community suffers form different  socio economic  problems that  are deeply rooted . A mong the problems  umcovered by the study  were ;

• Lack of both  pre – and  primary  school education  facilities  in community.

• Lack of proper toilet  facilities

• Inadequate  supply of potable water.

• Widespread  disease problems and  inadequate health service.

• Large family size and          low family income,

• Unemployment and poor housing conditions              

• Based  on the survey result , kindergarten  education  for children  from destitute families was accessed by  opening  day  care center in May   2004.  The   community  being  highly  appreciative  of the newly  opened  Day Care  Center  requested  the  extension of its  services  to cover elementary school .                                                                                   KIDS CARE  motivated  and encouraged by   the  request mead  has agreed to undertake the school  extension  program  subject  to  availably  of land  from  the  government and the necessary  fund   from  donors .                                                                                               At present the  6000m2 of   land is  granted  by  the  government  for the project and the site plan secured.  Now  what  remains  is to solicit funds  from  different  sources to implement  the proposed  program.  The  fund  is  expected to  come  from  embassies  different  organizations ( both local and international ) and  individuals .

• Debere    Berhane  T own located 133 km’s  north  of  Addis  Ababa  is the  administrative  center  of North   Showa   zone  of Amara Nations  Administrative  Region. for administrative  purposes  the town  is  divided  into 9  kebeles (the smallest  administrative unit),The  main  source  of livelihood  for the  majority  of the  people in this  town is  to  get  engaged   in some form  of small trade  ,be  government  employee or  obtain  a small benefit  as  a   pensioner for  past  service  renderd. As  a  result   among  the  community,   poverty  is  widespread  leading to  different  social  problems such as  being  orphaned and  streetism in  children.                                                                                                                                 KIDS  CARE ,  being   aware of  the  dire problems that some  of  the  children are in has opted  to open up  a free  day  care service for  a limited  number of  children from  families  that are  poor and  destitute  where  the children get   pre  school  education ,  school  uniforms  stationery  and one meal  a day  for  free.  This program  is  in  operation  since  October 2006.                                                                                                                           To strengthen  , the service   further , KIDS  CARE  has proposed  to build  G+1 children’s   home and G+0 kindergarten  on  a  pice  of land  granted  by  Keble  06 of  the city  administration  now  , what   remains is to solicit  fund s different  sources  to implement the propiseds program.  The  fund is  expected  to come from embassies, different  organizations (both local and  international) individuals.

• Kids Care  graduates  64 kindergarten student on  Juny ,1, 08 and Juny , 6, 08  out of 64 graduates 30 of them are graduated    from kality  kindergarten and 34 of them  are from Debrebrhan  kindergarten
